SHEEP
Sheep trade eased towards the back end of last week and we saw evidence of that in Hull today but overall better than many would have expected, well fleshed lambs are still good to place, although probably slightly less demand for anything 45kg+ than we’ve been used to recently. Ewes still flying even with Eid now gone, but they must have flesh with the feeding ewe trade starting to dry up recently.

Feeding Ewes to £100, average £65.17.

Store Hoggs to £124, average £111.00.

CATTLE
Cattle just keep getting better & better, a very nice birthday present for auctioneer Ralph Ward, selling store cattle to over £2,000 for the first time in his career, with a superb trio of Charolais Steers from Turner Bros, East Halton making the grade and then some, realising £2,140 just after a pair of Limousins from the same home had so nearly broken the barrier at £1,940. A ring full of buyers again this week with demand for all sorts with some of the smaller end looking just as good if not a better trade than the headline grabbers. Only a few Angus calves this week but trade as strong as ever, with nothing over 6 weeks of age.
